RAS has once again partnered with the United Way to offer a Freedom Schools summer reading program this year!

Freedom Schools provide a 5-week, safe, nurturing summer environment where scholars are valued, celebrated, and given opportunities to learn the pleasure of reading. Scholars improve their ability to read, connect to their culture, develop positive relationships with Servant Leader Interns (College Students), increase their self-esteem, and develop a positive attitude toward academic achievement. Additionally, scholars participate in community service and social action projects.

The Richard Allen Schools are public community schools that participate in state-wide assessment (including the Ohio Achievement Assessments).  The Schools uphold compulsory attendance requirements for all students, as required by law.

Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their students' teachers by writing or emailing the principal. For a complete faculty roster that lists where faculty completed their collegiate studies and the undergraduate or graduate degrees held, click on the Richard Allen Schools District Site link in the Resources section on the homepage.

From the Principal

As this year comes to a close, it has been an exciting one for all of us at Richard Allen Academy. Together, we have learned much and shared expereinces that will long remain with us in the years to come.

Special thanks to all of you who have contributed in many ways, byputting first things first. Thank you for getting your children to school on time each day, for calls of encouragement- that meant so much, for making sure homework was completed...and turned in. Thanks for chaperoning field trips, providing food for students and staff, attending school events, serving on committees, supporting our work in countless ways for the benefit of all our students. For these, and a million other things, we are truly grateful.

I am happy and excited that by our efforts of beginning with the end in mind, our spring Terra Nova results are in and we have 155 students make their academic growth gains. The dedication, hard work, and perseverence soared through the building shining bright amongst our students and teachers.

It has been an honor and a priviledge to serve as the principal of Richard Allen Academy. Thank you to the teachers, staff, students, parents, and community.

Ms. Kerley
